San Cristobal De Las Casas
An experience you wont forget deep in the corazon <3 of Mexico! You will fall in love with this magical puebla. San Cristobal is home to many indigenous Mexicans. Spend a week while exploring the colorful culture, nature, yoga and climbing.
While staying in a large shared home “Casa De La Tierra” and guided by Steven Thorsen and Jenna Carpenter, participants will enjoy daily yoga, meditation, and intention practices, as well as opportunities for climbing, workshops, activities, and discussions. Participants will also be immersed in the cultural experience of San Cristobal de Las Casas during Dia de los Muertos – a celebration of ancestors, friends, and family who have passed. With this exploration of mortality and gratitude at the forefront of festivities, we encourage participants to show up with radical honesty and playful curiosity as they observe their relationship with both life and death. While encouraged to dive into challenges, plenty of time will remain open for relaxation and enjoyment of the world around us.
Jenna’s relationship with yoga began in 2000, and little did she know that it would have such a positive impact on her life. She has studied over 500 hours including hatha, vinyasa, yin, restorative, and anusara. In 2008, Jenna started teaching. She is passionate about integrating the lessons we learn on the mat into our lives, and she believes that this is the true medicine of the practice.
Jenna started climbing in 2014, to get over her fear of heights. She sees that yoga and climbing share several parallels like the importance of focus, breath, strength, and flexibility. It has given her new perspectives that continuously enrich her life.
Steven’s interests in movement, philosophy, and self-realization developed into consistent practices of yoga and climbing in 2009. Completing his 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2013, he began teaching and demystifying the Eight Limbed path for application in daily life. Over the years since, Steven has continued to blend activities for centered self-awareness with challenges that test one’s ability to stay calm in difficult situations. Within this fusion, Ascent Mindset was created to share Mindset Training and apply these practices to climbing and daily life. Learn more about Steven here.
Martin and his wife Sofia live in San Cristobal and have been climbing, guiding and developing the routes of this region for the last five years. They have climbed all over Chiapas and the Swiss Alps (where Martin is originally from). They enjoy climbing nearly everyday outside taking groups of climbers out (beginners to advance) with their two pups. As you can imagine, these two are incredibly strong, inspiring and as humble as it gets!
